The Northern Ireland Blue Cattle Club held their annual herd competition recently and Bimeda was pleased to sponsor this event.
Bimeda UK sales representative, Kevin McAnenly attended the Club’s Annual BBQ in Ballynahinch Rugby Club to assist with the award presentations.
Entrants from all over the province were judged by the well-known cattle breeder Geoffrey Rodgers assisted by his son Martin from Ballynahinch.
The competition was judged in two herd categories: large and small along with individual awards for Best Brood Cow, Best Bull, Best Heifer and Best Calf. Geoffory and Martin gave a superb photographic presentation of photos they had taken on their travels.
Martin Bros owners of the Springhill herd from Newtownards took first place in the Large Herd section and top award of Best Overall Herd.
Jack and Anne Morrison owners of the Chatham herd from Ballymoney took second place in the Large Herd section and Reserve Overall Herd.
Ivan and Corrina Gordon owners of the Springbank Herd from Kilkeel took first place in the Small Herd section
Ernie Gregg owner of the Ballybollen Herd from Ahoghill took second place in the Small Herd section.
Basil Dougherty owner of the Greenfield Herd from Kircubbin took third place in the Small Herd section.
Best Bull was Springhill Humbug owned by Martin Brothers, Newtownards. Best Heifer was Timoney Garnet owned by Trevor Dodds, Mayobridge. Best Brood Cow was Chatham Emily owned by Jack and Anne Morrison, Ballymoney. Best Calf was Springhill Just a Girl owned by Martin Brothers, Newtownards.
