Bimeda are proud to launch our new Ectofly Sheep Pour On instructional video. This describes how to use Ectofly for the prevention and treatment of blowfly strike on sheep. It also demonstrates the treatment and control of head flies, ticks and biting lice on sheep.
The video was made on Gwyn Price’s farm, in the heart of sheep country in Powys, Wales. Gwyn and his wife Gill, farm 170 hectares (440 acres), together with some rented ground, based at The Hafod, lying alongside the main A483 trunk road just north of Llanbadarn Fynydd. The land rises from around 1,125ft to 1,350ft.
Gweyn farms over 1500 breeding Welsh Mountain and Beulah ewes which he crosses with Blue Face Leicester rams to produce quality Welsh mule lambs to sell as breeding stock through the breed society sales. He also keeps a herd of Welsh Black suckler cows going to a Charollais bull, the calves sold as 12 to 14-month-old stores, again through Welshpool market.
Gwyn has also built a 12,000 in one free-range hen unit which produces about 11,000 free range eggs per day. Gill manages the unit with one other employee. The Prices see diversification as being a critical to the survival of any livestock farm business.
Bimeda would like to thank Gwyn and Gill for their time and wonderful hospitality when making this useful and informative Ectofly video.
