Sheep scab is a costly and highly contagious disease with serious implications for animal welfare. Tackling this disease needs a proactive approach from all quarters of the sheep farming and animal health industries; from manufacturers, to vets, farmers and SQPs.
Bimeda knows that SQPs and vets will play a key role in contributing to the fight against scab. As knowledgeable, trusted, industry professionals, we would like to see SQPs and vets actively engage with farmers when they are looking to purchase parasite control products, and to communicate important information about bio-security, diagnostics, and the optimum scab prevention and treatment options.
Bimeda knows that SQPs and vets are going to be critical to the success of combatting sheep scab in the UK. We are therefore pleased to announce the launch of the Bimeda Sheep Scab Academy. The Academy is designed to provide the most up-to-date information on the prevention and treatment of scab, which SQPs and vets can then use to promote best practice to farmers.
To achieve level one certification of the Bimeda Sheep Scab Academy, SQPs and vets need to register for Bimeda’s free online CPD website, and complete three relevant training modules.
The online CPD website can be found on the following link:
The three AMTRA-accredited modules are listed below.
- The Importance of Diagnostics in Sheep Scab Control - by key opinion leader, Rebecca Mearns
- Sheep Scab - Control Measures and Resistance - by key opinion leader, Lesley Stubbings
- Sheep Ectoparasites and Their Control - by Key Opinion Leader Peter Bates
A certificate of completion and some branded Sheep Scab Academy goodies will be provided to anyone who completes all three modules in 2019. Level 2 of the Sheep Scab Academy will be launched in early 2020.
